BLOCK CAPTAINS

  • The key person in any Neighborhood Watch group is the Block Captain. This person is an integral component to keeping the block actively involved in crime prevention efforts as well as the important process of information exchange between neighbors. Block Captains are neighbors who act as representatives for their block.
  • This role can be shared between 2 or more neighbors. The representative’s role is to be the contact person for their immediate neighbors. We need a network of Block Captains who will initiate and maintain Neighborhood Watch programs in their areas.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Contact residents to get them involved and to obtain their support and participation. Involve everyone — young and old, single and married, renter and homeowner.
    • Develop a neighborhood communication system (i.e. telephone tree; email list) to distribute vital information to neighbors pertaining to criminal activity and other concerns that develop in the area.
    • Arrange for your group to meet socially at least twice per year to exchange information and renew relationships as well as to get acquainted with new neighbors.
    • Encourage neighbors to advise you concerning criminal activity. It is the victim’s responsibility to contact the police.
    • If you or your neighbors witness a crime in progress or observe suspicious behavior, call 911 (emergency) or (406) 552-6300 (non-emergency).
    • Relays information about crime and nuisance activity on the block to the crime prevention specialist
    • Recruits block members to attend additional training opportunities.
    • Finds a replacement if no longer able to fulfill the duties of a Block Captain.
    • Your position as a Block Captain does not give you any law enforcement authority. You are simply the person who facilitates the unity of the group, distributes information, and coordinates activities.
  • Welcome!

The concept behind Pleasant View Homes is to create and maintain a quality living environment whereby our neighborhood is a great place in which to live and our property values continue to increase. The best way to achieve these goals is to communicate with one another and to share ideas and concerns.
